The suspect in a recent sexual assault and kidnapping of a Medicine Hat cab driver remains on the lam and police say he drove his victim to Calgary in her work vehicle.

On Thursday night, a man approached a Deluxe Taxi in downtown Medicine Hat and requested a ride to the Southview Drive area of the city. The driver complied and the passenger exited the minivan at his destination without incident. The man returned a short time later to the parked taxi, attacked the female driver and took control of the vehicle.

The suspect proceeded to drive to Riverside in Medicine Hat where he parked the van and sexually assaulted the woman. Following the attack, the suspect drove the stolen taxi and the victim to Calgary where he released the woman. The taxi driver approached a home and asked for help.

The suspect and the stolen taxi have not been located.

According to the Medicine Hat Police Service, the suspect is described as:

  • An Aboriginal male
  • Having a medium build
  • Shorter than 6’ tall
  • Being in his early 30’s
  • Having short hair
  • Having a tattoo on his left cheek that resembles a dot

At the time of the attacks, the suspect was wearing a red baseball cap and blue jeans.

The stolen taxi is described as:

  • A blue, 2005 Dodge Caravan minivan
  • With ‘Deluxe Taxi’ markings including ‘Unit #41’
    With Alberta licence plate K54924
