Michael John Denton was born May 18th, 1987 in Calgary, Alberta. Mike was the husband of Carlyn, the son of Carol and Sandy, brother of David, Christopher and Claire. Mike was son-in-law of Fran and Ron Morrison, and brother-in-law of Jeff.
Mike went to Elbow Park Elementary, Rideau Park School and Western Canada High School before attending the University of Alberta, where he earned a degree in Atmospheric Sciences. It was during university he met Carlyn, in October 2005. They were married in September 2012.
Mike loved airplanes and knew he wanted to be a pilot from a young age. He obtained his Pilot's License through the Calgary Flying Club at Springbank, in the summer of 2008, between his 3rd and 4th year of university. Mike built his experience and furthered his passion for aviation by working on the ramp at the Flying Club, and later at North Caribou Air and Kenn Borek Air, while pursuing his Commercial License and various other ratings. He also helped fly a Twin Otter back from Panama to Canada. Mike flew to many places in the Canadian north based out of Resolute Bay and Inuvik, and Labrador with Kenn Borek. Mike also had a passion for Antarctica, and went there in 2009 on a Students On Ice field trip while he was a student at the University of Alberta.
As much as Mike loved airplanes he was always adamant that he loved Carlyn, his wife, even more. They shared an especially deep connection, loved travelling, exploring the outdoors, dancing in their living room, and going on adventures of all sorts. Carlyn and Mike moved to Saskatoon last summer to continue their life together while Carlyn pursued her medical residency.
Mike shared his birthday with his Grandpa Jack who had many similar qualities. He was a very compassionate young man whose heart touched many people. He was thoughtful, honest, conscientious, hard-working and had a playful sense of humour. Mike loved the mountains and enjoyed hiking, skiing and snowshoeing. He was a talented photographer who went out of his way to get the shot.
Mike grew up knowing he wanted to be a pilot and worked hard to pursue his dream career. Through his work as a pilot he had the opportunity to combine his love of photography, aviation and travel.
