A mother from the city of Brooks is pleading for information regarding the whereabouts of her 30-year-old son after the Calgarian stopped returning messages or visiting his apartment.

Sandra Kimmel is visiting Calgary’s homeless shelters and posting flyers throughout the city in an effort to locate her son, Fletcher Angus Kimmel, who has not been heard from in more than two weeks.

“He has the biggest heart in the world,” said Sandra. “He takes care of everybody”

Sandra last contacted her son through text messaging in late September as she passed through Calgary on her way to Kelowna.

“He was helping a friend move on September 26 and seemed really upbeat. He was going to meet with us on the Thursday when we were returning,” said Sandra. Her text messages on her return to Calgary went unanswered. She visited Fletcher’s apartment on the Friday and left a note on the door.

Five days later, Sandra returned to the apartment with members of the Calgary Police Service and discovered her note had not been removed. Despite the cold weather, the windows in the apartment were open and food left on the counter had spoiled.

Sandra says her son had fallen on hard times and she was helping him with his rent. Fletcher had lost his oil patch job in recent layoffs but managed to find employment in construction.

The construction job ended but Fletcher, a welder by trade, secured a job in his field. A freak accident that occurred while playing Frisbee left Fletcher with a broken foot and unemployed again.

“He’s the strongest person I know,” said Sandra. “He’s frustrated because he can’t find a job. He’s frustrated because his foot hurts and it’s not healing as fast as he wants it to. He worked in the oil patch. Everything moves fast in the oil patch and things are not moving fast enough for him right now.”

Fletcher Angus Kimmel is described as:

  • A Caucasian male
  • 30 years old
  • Having brown hair and eyes
  • Approximately 196 cm (6’5”) tall
  • Weighing roughly 95 kg (210 lbs)
  • Missing two of his front teeth
  • Walking with a limp as a result of his Frisbee mishap
  • “He works out a lot so he’s very fit"

“We’ve been putting messages out on Facebook,” said Sandra. “The response has been tremendous.”

Attempts to contact Fletcher by phone have provided the Kimmel family with hope.  “We believe that he is checking his messages because his inbox is emptied at times.”

Anyone with information regarding Fletcher Kimmel’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
