A man has been hospitalized following a fall at a construction site in the city’s northwest.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., a worker at the Groves of Varsity condominium project at the intersection of 53 St. and Crowchild Trail N.W. suffered a fall of approximately twelve metres.  The victim fell from scaffolding and hit several objects on his way to the ground.  Co-workers rushed to the man's side and found him to be alert and breathing.

Jeff Mann, the on-site supervisor, says a board in the scaffolding, which had been inspected and deemed safe earlier in the day,  gave way, sending the victim plummeting to the ground below.

According to Stuart Brideaux of EMS, the worker was transported to hospital by EMS in serious, but ultimately non life-threatening condition.

Calgary Police Service and Occupational Health & Safety officials are investigating the incident.
