Canada Pacific Rail has announced its decision to close the Locomotive Reliability Centre at the Alyth Yard in the upcoming months.

The railway says the closure was prompted by restrictions imposed by the Canada Transportation Agency on September 13, 2013 which reduced the hours CP Rail could conduct load testing and idling in the Alyth Yard which is located a short distance from the residential community of Inglewood.

The Alyth Locomotive Reliability Centre has been in operation for nearly 60 years.

With the closure, CP Rail will eliminate 130 Calgary positions. All repair and maintenance work will be relocated to other CP facilities throughout the country.
