Freezing rain and slippery conditions are being blamed for several crashes on roads in and around Calgary on Thursday morning.

The city says that the inclement weather conditions caused 11 injury accidents and numerious non-injury crashes.

The Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) is continuing to monitor conditions but expect the weather to improve through the day.

In addition to the slippery roads, widespread power outages added to the issues by knocking out traffic lights.

Drivers are reminded that if they come across a traffic light that is not functioning, they should treat the intersection as a four-way stop.
