EMS hosted an open house to publicize the need for safety in emergency situations.

Calgarians were able to get a first hand look at the inside of emergency vehicles on Sunday, without the need for an emergency.

The open house was held as part of National EMS week.

Attendees were able to see some of the equipment and procedures that paramedics use on scene.

"We're able to interact with citizens on a personal level, on a low stress level, rather than always being in an emergency situation," said Adam Loria, Public Education Officer and EMS.

The event also spread awareness on how to properly move out of the way of emergency vehicles.

National EMS week runs from May 15 to May 21, 2011.
