Nine people from two homes in northeast Calgary had to be evacuated as a precaution following a gas leak.

At about 8:55 p.m. crews were called to the 6900 block of Laguna Way N.E.

When they got there, they found that a gas line had been punctured by an excavation crew.

The line was clamped and Atco Gas was called to deal with the break.

No one was injured in the leak and everyone was allowed to return home shortly afterwards.

The fire department is reminding residents to visit www.alberta1call.com or phone 1-800-242-3447 to ensure gas lines are clearly identified before digging.
