Fire crews responded to a home on Marbank Way Northeast Sunday morning and encountered a working fire at the residence for the fourth time in the last 32 days.

Firefighters returned to the home at approximately 5:00 a.m. following reports of heavy smoke emanating from the building.

‘Crews quickly got water on to the fire which seemed to be mostly in the basement area,” said acting Battalion Chief Randy McRae. The fire was quickly knocked down.

‘This is the fourth fire in this particular house in about a month,” said McRae. It is the subject of an investigation already and that investigation will continue.”

McRae says there have been no reports of injuries.

“The house appeared to be under renovation from the previous fires,” said McRae. “Nobody was living in the home.”

The cause of Sunday’s morning fire is under investigation.

On Thursday, the Calgary Police Service arson unit released images of a person of interest in connection with the fires that had been deliberately set to the home on March 29, April 1 and April 5. The estimated damage of the previous fires exceeded $170,000.

The arson unit believes the residents of the home were being targeted but a motive has not been confirmed.

Anyone with information about any of the fires at the Marbank Way home is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service, 403-266-1234, or Crime Stoppers.
