Residents of a small community near Calgary are being warned not to drink their tap water as a water main break may have contaminated the hamlet’s water supply.

The nearly 350 residents of Blackie, located 70 kilometres southeast of Calgary, have been supplied with, and will continue to receive, bottled water until the water quality is deemed safe and the Water Quality Alert is lifted.

The alert went into effect at approximately 8:30 p.m. Friday and officials have not provided an estimated timeframe for the lifting of the advisory.  The water main break occurred during scheduled maintenance.

During the Water Quality Alert, residents are permitted to wash clothing, use toilets and take showers using the local water supply..
