A judge was told Arcelie Laoagan died from severe injury to her head when she was killed in 2008.

The information was part of the medical examiner's testimony on Thursday.

Dr. Graeme Dowling also said Laoagan had injuries all over her body which were consistent with being beaten and sexually assaulted.

Christopher Watcheston is on trial for the first-degree murder of the 41-year-old.

Watcheston showed no emotion in the prisoner's box as he listened to the medical examiner decribe the injuries.

Watcheston has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder but admits to sexually assaulting Laoagan and causing the injuries that led to her death.

Laoagan's body was found near the Franklin LRT station in the early morning hours of January 18, 2008.
