The man accused of killing a Calgary mother in a gas and dash last week made a brief appearance via closed circuit TV in court on Monday.

Joshua Cody Mitchell was arrested on Tuesday following an investigation into a fatal gas and dash on June 7, 2015.

In the proceedings on Monday morning, the case was put over until June 30, so the Crown could prepare their disclosure.

Mitchell has not yet secured a lawyer in his defence.

A judge ruled that he would remain in custody until his next appearance, unless they schedule a bail hearing.

The Crown expects that if that happens, it would be a lengthy bail hearing.

Crown lawyer Lloyd Robertson says there is a considerable amount of disclosure to get through. "There's still more to come. If further charges are warranted after the review of that disclosure, then the Crown will take the steps of laying further charges in respect to this matter."

Robertson says it's a very serious case and the Crown will be opposing any bail application Mitchell may make.

Mitchell is charged with criminal negligence causing death, hit and run causing death, dangerous driving causing death, as well as theft.

Police say Mitchell was behind the wheel of a truck involved in an incident at the Centex gas station on 16 Avenue N.W. on Sunday June 7.

According to police reports, Mitchell and youth male, who cannot be charged and was not identified, filled the tank of a stolen truck with $113.23 worth of gas and then left without paying.

Maryam Rashidi Ashtiani, 35, was working as a gas station attendant at the time the theft occurred and she followed the truck to a neighbouring Home Depot where the mother of one confronted them.

After a brief altercation, police say Mitchell drove off in an attempt to flee the scene, running over Ashtiani in the process.

She died of her injuries in hospital several days later.

Police say he was already accused of dangerous driving and out on bail when he was involved in the fatal crash.

He’s already appeared in court, put the case was put over last week so Mitchell could have time to secure a lawyer.
