Cochrane RCMP closed Highway 66 near Highway 758 after a suspected gas leak on Friday afternoon and evacuated the area as a precaution.
Crews evacuated the Gooseberry Provincial Campground and Easter Seals Camp Horizon as a precaution.
Alberta Emergency Alert issued a warning on Friday afternoon about a hazardous materials release with the potential for threatening life and the environment near Camp Horizon and the McLean Creek Public Land Use Zone.
People were told to avoid the area and stay indoors.
Crews have since determined that the gas smell was coming from a 3000 lb. propane tank that was in the river from the floods.
Emergency crews deemed the area safe and re-opened Highway 66 just after 2:00 p.m.
Campers that were evacuated have now been allowed back into the area.
