The Calgary Police Service’s Tactical Unit was called into action on Monday night after a man walking in Glenmore Park came across a vintage military shell.

At first, the man didn’t know what he found until he alerted police about it and they checked it out.

Investigators suspect that the flooding in late June unearthed the shell or swept it to the Weaselhead area.

The park area was closed for a short time while the police took care of it.

The shell was safely detonated and park reopened early Tuesday morning.
