Alberta’s current seasonal flu vaccination campaign is one for the record books, as the provincial government says the number of immunizations has surpassed the one million mark.

““From years of experience, we know that not every Albertan will choose to get immunized,” said Dr. James Talbot, Chief Medical Officer of Health. “As a result, we always have vaccine leftover at the end of the season, including 60,000 doses that went unused last flu season. This will be the first year that demand has been greater than supply.”

Dr. Talbot is in discussions with his counterparts across the country to determine what supply of the flu shots remains available and how it can be distributed to provinces and territories where demand remains high.

Alberta Health Services will continue to update its Flu Clinic website, notifying the public of clinic closures caused by vaccination shortages.
