Charges have now been laid in connection with the death of a 20-year-old Calgary woman.

29-year-old Kristopher “Tray” Guenther is charged with second degree murder in the death of his ex-fiancé, 20-year-old Lacey Jones-McKnight.

Lacey’s grief stricken mother is critical of how police handled her daughter’s complaints leading up to her death and thinks they didn’t do enough to protect her.

Police believe Lacey Jones-McKnight was killed in southeast Calgary.

Shelly Jones, Lacey’s mother says her daughter’s ex-fiancé showed up at her house in Beddington unexpectedly Thursday night.

She says “he pulled out a knife and handed it to me and said I want you to kill me”

Then Jones says the situation escalated, “he reached around and tried to grab the knife from me, and him and I struggled with the knife and he got it away, and started walking away and looked over his shoulder and said, your daughter is already dead”.

Jones says she and Lacey phoned police five times in the last three weeks, reporting things like, her car was stolen and the tires slashed.

Jones says police didn’t take the complaints seriously.

Police won’t comment, only saying the couple was known to them.
