Cochrane RCMP have located the van of a woman who was reported missing in 2012 but say a search of the area has not turned up any clues as to her whereabouts.

Sara Coates was last seen in the Stanley Park area of Calgary on Thursday, August 2, 2012 and was known to camp in her van in the Foothills Industrial area.

Police put out a public plea for help in May with a description of Coates’ blue Chevrolet Astro minivan.

On October 22, 2013, the van was recovered by RCMP in a secluded area about 50 kilometres west of Cochrane on the Morley First Nation.

Police say they acted on information they received directly from a resident of Morley First Nation.

A search of the area was conducted by members of Cochrane RCMP Detachment, Calgary Police Dog Services, Calgary Forensic Identification Section and members of the RCMP K Division Special Tactical Operations but the remains of Sara Coates were not found.

Police say they do not consider her disappearance to be suspicious and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone with further information about the van or her disappearance is asked to contact Cochrane RCMP Detachment or Crime Stoppers.
