Police have one man in custody and are looking for a second man in relation to a serious assault that happened at the Remand Centre on December 2, 2009.

Police say the victim was waiting in a dinner line when he was assaulted by two other men.

The victim was punched and kicked until correctional officers were able to step in and stop the assault.

The man suffered serious injuries and remains in a Calgary hospital in poor condition.

Police have charged Jeremy Clifford Thomas, 21, with aggravated assault and currently have him in custody in relation to another matter.

Police are looking for the second man and have issued an Alberta-wide warrant for the arrest of Jimmy Minh Nguyen, 19, of Calgary, for aggravated assault.

Jimmy Nguyen is described as:

  • Asian male
  • Approximately 173 cm or 5' 8" tall
  • 73kg or 160 lbs.
  • Medium build
  • Brown eyes
  • Black hair.

Nguyen lives in Calgary, but has ties to Vancouver, B.C., and should not be approached if he is spotted.
