A 23-year-old Calgary man was arrested and taken into RCMP custody after he was clocked riding his motorcycle at nearly three times the posted speed limit.

Saturday evening, just after 6:00 p.m., members of the Alberta Traffic Sheriffs and Community Peace Officers were conducting a speed trap along highway 762, south of the hamlet of Bragg Creek when the bike sped through the area.

Laser and radar instruments determined the motorcycle was traveling 235 km/h. The posted speed limit on that section of highway is 80 km/h.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and the rider, whose identity has not been released, was detained.

The motorcyclist faces criminal charges of Dangerous Driving.
