Dozens of people gathered at the Lutheran Church of the Cross on Tuesday night to honour the memory of a young woman who was murdered last year.

Brittney McInnes was just 17 years old when her body was found in her Canyon Meadows home.

Her stepfather of 13 years, Bradley Rietze, will stand trial on first degree murder charges later this year.

Brittney was a senior at Dr. E.P. Scarlet High School and was planning on becoming a veterinarian.

The young woman loved Superman and many of the mourners in attendance wore T-shirts with the superhero logo on it.

Her fellow classmates dedicated February 1st as Superman day to remember her and a scholarship fund in her name was launched in November 2010.

The SuperBritt fund was established through the Children's Legacy Foundation and will help kids from low income families to pursue an education in music and the arts. The money will be used for living expenses, tuition, and books.
