A massive search is underway in Sparwood B.C. for the man police believe abducted and then returned three-year-old Kienan Hebert.

Police gathered in the community of Sparwood B.C. early Monday morning and set out on ATV's, on foot and in a helicopter to search the area.

Police want to talk to 46-year-old Randall Hopley in relation to the abduction of the little boy from his home last week.

Kienan's father, Paul found his son inside the family home at 3:00 a.m. Sunday morning.

"To the person that returned Kienan safely to our family, I would like to say thank you," said an emotional Paul Hebert.

Police arrived at the home to find Kienan sitting alone on a couch with a blanket. There was no suspect on the premises.

The news sent shockwaves through the town and the police community and now there are lingering questions about how the kidnapper was able to put Kienan back in his home and escape undetected.

"How can you watch a house for four days and then find out that this guy put the kid back in the house. Why weren't the cops watching the house? it just don't make any sense," said Sparwood resident, Carl Barrett.

On Monday, RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk declined to offer details on how someone managed to break into the Hebert home on two occasions.

"With respect to the home, again the RCMP's number one priority was the safe return of Kienan and steps were taken to facilitate that. We cannot discuss any of the details at this time as to how things unfolded here," he told CTV News Channel.

Moskaluk said police are being cautious about divulging any investigative details about why Hopley is considered a suspect.

"At this point in time if Randall Peter Hopley was seen by a police officer he would be placed under arrest, we would have the grounds to arrest him," Moskaluk would only say.

Neighbours say it was Hopley who called 911 to report Kienan's whereabouts after he was dropped off at the Hebert home.

Hopley's mother was also surprised to hear the news of Kienans safe return and now hopes her son will do the right thing.

"I want him home now, if he can hear me and I'm really glad about the little boy and I hope he's well," said Margaret Fink, Hopley's mother.

Kienan appears to be uninjured and his family is happy he is home safe and sound.

"Kienan is happily home and playing with his brothers and sisters," said Paul Hebert.

RCMP say that anyone who spots Hopley should not approach him and call 911 immediately.
