The man who conspired to kill a Calgary businessman over a business deal that went sour will likely learn his fate on Tuesday.

Robert Deer was convicted of manslaughter for planning the attack on Jack Beauchamp, who was shot to death inside his downtown office in 2006.

Mohamed Karim, the gunman hired by Deer, was convicted of second degree murder for committing the act.

Karim is facing a life sentence for his part in the crime.

Both men were originally convicted of first-degree murder in the case but were granted a new trial by the Alberta Court of Appeal.

Queen’s Bench Justice Beth Hughes found Karim guilty of second-degree murder and Deer guilty of manslaughter in the second trial.

Beauchamp’s wife Debra says that she had made plans for a special vacation in the September of year Jack died.

“It was a wonderful day. If only we knew what was coming,” she told a courtroom in October.
