A 23-year-old man has died from the injuries he sustained in a Friday night collision at Macleod Trail and Heritage Drive.

According to police, the man was riding his skateboard westbound along Heritage Drive when he attempted to cross Macleod Trail in the crosswalk at approximately 10:00 p.m.

A southbound Jeep Wrangler collided with the skateboarder.  The man was not wearing a helmet and suffered severe head injuries.

EMS transported the man to hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.  He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

Witnesses say the traffic light was red at the time the skateboarder was crossing and the driver of the Jeep had the right of way.

Police do not expect to lay any charges in connection to the crash.  Alcohol and speed are not believed to have contributed to the collision.
