On Friday morning, the bodies of two men were pulled from an avalanche at Mount Athabasca, near the Columbia Icefields on Highway 93 between Jasper and Lake Louise.

Parks Canada began searching for the missing climbers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 28 after receiving a report from returning climbers that saw two men in the area right before an avalanche occurred.

Searchers found a climbing rope at the mouth of a crevasse filled with avalanche debris before dark Thursday night, secured it, and resumed the search on Friday morning.

The bodies were found around 9:30 a.m. and have been transported to a local area hospital for identification.

The names of the men aren't being released until their families are notified.
