CTV News has learned that 55-year-old Brian Malley is under investigation by Canada's securities regulator.
RCMP arrested Malley on Sunday in relation to the November 15, 2011 bombing that took the life of 23-year-old Victoria Shachtay.
Shachtay was living with her young daughter, Destiny, and a live-in care worker when the explosion happened.
She was confined to a wheelchair following a 2004 car crash and was killed when a parcel delivered to her home exploded.
The care giver was not injured and Destiny was not at home at the time of the explosion.
Malley was arrested at his home in Innisfail and charged with:
- First Degree Murder
- Causing an explosion of an explosive substance likely to cause serious bodily harm, death or serious damage to property
- Sending or delivering to a person an explosive device
On Tuesday, Malley's wife was supervised by Assante Wealth Management employees as she removed his personal effects from his Red Deer office.
Assante says that Malley's clients have all been moved to an adviser at its head office.
IIROC, Canada's regulator that oversees investment dealers and equity trading, is looking into Malley's investment dealings.
It is IIROC's policy not to reveal anything about the investigation until it's over, so they would not say where the initial complaint against Malley came from.
RCMP say if IIROC finds evidence of wrongdoing, Malley could also be subject to further police investigation.
"If the reviewers determine there is clear evidence of fraud, there are different ways that could be investigated, but yes it could at some point result in an investigation being done by RCMP, but it could also remain with the reviewers," said RCMP Sgt. Patricia Neely.
Malley is being held in custody and will be back in court in July for a bail hearing.
