The province plans to modernize the Foothills Composite High School in Okotoks and install several modular classrooms to address infrastructure needs.

The modernization plan includes improvements to the school’s mechanical and electrical systems and shop spaces will be brought up to current standards.

“Under our Building Alberta Plan, we are working hard to make our education system more student-centred and responsive to the needs of kids and their communities. Modern facilities are essential to achieving the goals of Inspiring Education and will help ensure that Alberta’s students receive a world-class education,” said Jeff Johnson, Minister of Education.

The province says the inside of the school will also get a facelift so that it can better deliver the school’s specialized fine arts and career and technology programming.

About 1000 students attend the school and eight modular classrooms will be added for the 2014-15 school year.
