The southbound lanes of Macleod Trail were closed to traffic south of Southland Drive late Tuesday night after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle.

Emergency crews responded to the area shortly after 10:00 p.m.

Police say a man was walking across Macleod Trail on the south side of the intersection when he was hit by a southbound 2018 Cadillac XTS.

It is not known if the man was in the crosswalk but police believe he was crossing against the pedestrian signals.

The driver of the Cadillac crossover had a green light and remained at the scene following the crash.

A woman attempted to perform CPR on the man prior to the arrival of EMS but the man died from his injuries at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.

Police say speed and alcohol on the part of the driver were not factors but that alcohol played a role on the part of the pedestrian.
