Calgary Police have charged a man in connection with a number of complaints of publicly inciting hatred.

Beginning in January, police received more than a dozen complaints from residents in downtown Calgary after two men were seen carrying signs bearing hateful messages that were targeted towards two people and Calgary’s Chinese community.

Milan Papez, 72, has been charged with four counts of public incitement of hatred and one count of defamatory libel.

Charges are pending against a second man.
