One person has been killed in a crash near 130 Avenue and 37 Street SW. and police say one of the vehicles involved was stolen from the Chestermere area.

Emergency crews were called to a collision between a truck and car at about 6:30 a.m. Thursday.

“At about 6:30 we got a call from a motorist saying that there was a vehicle that was southbound in the northbound lanes that had struck another vehicle that was going the proper direction on the roadway head-on,” said CPS S/Sgt Paul Stacey.

Paramedics pronounced the male driver of the car dead at the scene and police say he was in his 50s. The identity of the deceased has not be releaed as police attempt to contact the victim's next of kin.

EMS officials say there were reports of other occupants involved in the collision who left the scene before they arrived and that a female in her 20s was eventually located and was taken to Foothills Hospital with soft tissue injuries.

Investigators say the truck was stolen from the Chestermere area and may have been involved in an incident on the Tsuu T'ina Nation earlier in the day.

Police say they have a male and female in custody and are looking for a third suspect.

“The occupants of the pickup truck, after the collision, immediately bailed out of the vehicle, ran away, we currently have two, that we believe were in the vehicle, in custody. Through a K-9 track we are tracking a third person right now that we believe may have been in that vehicle,” said Stacey.

Police have not released the identity of the deceased man and the Alberta Serious Incident Respnse Team is now investigating the actions of police.  ASIRT is asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or the events prior to the collison to contact them at 403-592-4306.

The roadway was closed to traffic for several hours before reopening early Thursday afternoon.
