A man has been upgraded but is still in serious condition in hospital after he was involved in a crash on Deerfoot Trail early Monday morning.
Emergency crews responded to a single vehicle crash southbound on Deerfoot Trail at about 2:15 a.m. on Monday.
According to initial investigations, the driver lost control at what was believed to be a high rate of speed.
He was ejected from the vehicle when the car rolled several times and crashed into a light standard in the centre median.
Units with the CPS Traffic Unit are investigating, but suspect that alcohol and speed played a factor in the crash.
He is currently in hospital suffering from serious injuries.
"The 28-year-old driver of the vehicle was transported to Foothills Hospital initially with life-threatening injuries. He's since been upgraded to serious," said Sgt. Joerg Gottschling of the CPS.
Gottschling also said that the man has two broken legs and a large number of internal injuries, but he is expected to survive.
Police say that witnesses spotted the vehicle, a 2004 Porsche Cayenne, racing with another car at speed well in excess of 100 km/h.
The two vehicles crossed over Anderson Rd., the Cayenne lost control and slid sideways off the street, rolling several times before hitting the post.
