A number of social service agencies have come together to create a centre that will connect Calgarians with services, supports and solutions.

The Safe Communities Opportunity and Resource Centre or SORCe reopened on Thursday and officials say it will enhance capacity and leverage existing resources to help vulnerable Calgarians.

The centre originally opened to the public on June 18 but was closed a few days later because of the floods.

More than 20 social service sector agencies, non-profit organizations, city and provincial departments are taking part in the initiative to support Calgary’s vulnerable population.

"SORce demonstrates the tremendous results communities and organizations can achieve when they work together," said Premier Alison Redford. "By connecting Albertans to the wide variety of services and programs available to them, we can ensure all Albertans get the support they need to reach their full potential."

The centre is a referral and access point to connect people to services, programs and support that currently exist within the community and includes resources for housing, mental health, addictions, training and employment.
