Police continue to search for a man accused of shooting a woman outside her northeast home early Monday morning.

Emergency crews were called to a home in the 600 block of Martindale Blvd. N.E. at about 12:45 a.m. for a weapons incident.

A 58-year-old woman was taken to hospital suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Detectives believe the woman was running from the home and was in the front yard when she was allegedly shot by the suspect. According to police, she was hit three times; once in the stomach and twice in the leg.

Neighbours heard the shots and called 911 immediately but the offender was gone by the time police arrived.

Police are looking for a 52-year-old man and say he was charged a few weeks before with a domestic-related incident at the home. At that time, he was ordered to stay away from his alleged victim as part of his release conditions, but was arrested on Sunday, August 12 after he breached those conditions.

Police are not releasing the man's identity at this time but say he will be arrested when he is located.

"We're currently focusing our efforts on Whitehorn and Temple. That's the latest information we have. We're looking for a silver vehicle, possibly a Cavalier. We're not sure of the licence plate at this point," says Acting Inspector Jim Leung.

Members of the Domestic Conflict Unit are working with District 5 GIU in tracking the man down.

The woman is in stable condition and recovering in a local hospital.
