There was an unexpected delay Monday in the trial for a Calgary couple accused in the death of their toddler.

Jonathan and Lisa Hope are accused of manslaughter and criminal negligence in the death of their daughter Summer.

Their trial began Monday in Calgary but had to be delayed when Jonathan Hope showed up drunk. His bail was revoked and he was taken into custody.

Another delay occurred when one of Hope's friends had a seizure in the gallery.

Hope's 16-month-old daughter died from an overdose of methadone in her southwest home in April 2006.

Hope is accused of smuggling methadone out of a clinic into his home where his daughter accidentally drank it.

Lisa Hope is accused of knowing about her daughter's death after it happened but not reporting it to authorities.

Emergency crews testified that when they responded to the home they were told that Summer hadn't been breathing for four hours before the 911 call.

The court case is scheduled for two weeks.
