A single mother and her daughter who fled Mongolia to escape abuse will be deported from Canada on Monday.
Ariunaa Demerel and her daughter Enky came to Calgary two years ago to escape from Ariunaa’s ex-husband, whom she said was abusive. She applied for refugee status but lost the case based on lack of evidence of the abuse.
On Sunday, a judge ruled that there would be no “irreparable harm” associated with the deportation, and no psychological harm to Demerel and her daughter.
Demerel hoped for more time to figure out a longer term solution, but will abide by the ruling.
“I don’t want to break the law, so they told me to come to the airport tomorrow at 7:00, so I will be there, and I have no plans, I don’t know, I don’t have any plans, I guess,” she said.
“I hope that God has plans for us, that he will help us survive there,” said Enky Demerel. “Every joy I have in my life is in Canada, so I really can’t go back, so I still hope that everything is going to be alright and I will go to school and graduate, you know, it’s all I want because I don’t see any future back there.”
The pair has flights booked to Mongolia on Monday.
