The Calgary Zoo was not open to visitors on Sunday following a loss of power.

The outage was the result of a grounded underground electrical cable. ENMAX crews have replaced the cable with a temporary, above ground cable which will supply power to the zoo's electrical system until a full repair is comple.

According to zoo officials, the temporary closure was for the safety of Calgary Zoo guests, staff and animals.

During the power loss, generators were in place to power filtration, cooling and heating systems for exhibits requiring precise conditions.

No animals required medical attenttion due to the power loss.
