The Premiers of Alberta and Saskatchewan are taking Thomas Mulcair, the leader of the NDP party, to task over his comments about the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Mulcair is on a trip to Washington and New York, meeting with U.S. policy makers.

Alison Redford and Brad Wall are concerned that he’ll be too critical of the pipeline at this crucial time when American lawmakers are in discussions on whether or not to approve the pipeline.

Mulcair has said on previous occasions that he would like to see a west to east pipeline in Canada before anything is built to take Alberta crude to the U.S.

“That one project represents the export of 40,000 jobs that could have been created in Canada. That’s not sustainability. You’ve got to also look at the social aspect anytime you look at resource development. Something Conservatives don’t do,” he said.

Redford says Mulcair is trying to push his own agenda.
