The Penguin Plunge is now two birds bigger, as two new penguin chicks have hatched at the exhibit at the Calgary Zoo.
The Gentoo penguins were born earlier in the summer, with one in late June and the other in early July.
The first was born to Arabel and Weddell and the second to Giselle and Lachlan, their second chick born.
Gentoo penguin eggs take about 38 days to hatch, with parents sharing the responsibilities of caring for the egg and then the hatchling when it emerges.
The parents work to help keep the chick warm and feed it regularly.
Gentoo penguins are listed as ‘near threatened’ in the wild.
