McMahon Stadium was completely packed on Thursday night for Alberta Flood Aid, the biggest show the venue has seen in its entire history.
The concert raised over $1M dollars for the Calgary Foundation, passing the goal set by organizers.
While many came to take in music from some of the biggest names in Canadian music, many people came just to support their community hit hard by flooding.
“Where I work, we were affected, so it’s great to come and have the celebration,” one said.
“It means helping people – people who still need help – we can’t forget about them,” said another.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi, Premier Alison Redford, and Prime Minister Stephen Harper also made appearances before the sold-out crowd.
Nenshi said the concert is not about looking back at what happened during the floods but ahead to the future.
"It was eight weeks ago today that the Bow and Elbow Rivers crested. It was eight weeks ago tonight that I was wandering around the city wondering how we were ever going to recover," Nenshi said.
"Here we are. Thirty thousand plus people here, not just celebrating but reinvigorating themselves for the next phase of work which is going to be just as hard."
The night was a complete success, raising over $1.4M for flood relief.
That total is expected to change as organizers count up all the money made from a barbecue and t-shirts sold at the concert.
Lines are still open for text donations as well.
Those interested can text ABFLOOD to 20222 to donate $10.
Donations can also be made on the Alberta Flood Aid website. Tax receipts will be issued for any amount over $25.
