One person is in hospital after being struck by an SUV in downtown Calgary early Saturday morning,

Calgary Police say a dark-coloured SUV was travelling south along Third St. S.E. between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, shortly after 2 a.m.  when it struck a pedestrian standing in the lane.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital in serious, life-threatening condition.

Officers say the driver of the SUV fled the scene and an investigation into their whereabouts is ongoing.

Anyone with information or footage of the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact Calgary police at 403-266-1234.
