Residents in the southwest neighbourhood of Evergreen spent Sunday morning monitoring a fawn stuck in a fence.
Eric Herscovic was out walking his dog around 6:30 a.m. when he noticed a baby deer stuck in a fence. The fawn's mother sat in the grass nearby.
Herscovic called 311, and was advised to call Fish and Wildlife, but when he called he was told it was too early to send out an officer.
Hersocvic says “the first answer was 'it's too early to call out an officer' - we waited a few hours and kept calling and other people kept calling and I think finally the officer is on his way five hours later.”
In between those phone calls area residents tried to free the deer, but both the fawn and its mother became agitated so the residents backed off.
A Fish and Wildlife officer was able to free the fawn. It appeared to have a slight limp, but was able to walk away with its mother.
