At a briefing on Sunday evening, Calgary officials said that they have found the body of an elderly woman inside a home in Mission.

The 83-year-old woman was found in the 100 block of 25 Ave. S.W. on earlier in the day.

“We have found a woman, an 83-year-old woman, deceased, in her home in Mission. As of now, we do not have a cause of death. We do not know if it is flood-related, but we wanted to get this news out as soon as we could,” says Mayor Naheed Nenshi.

Emergency officials say they aren’t sure whether or not the woman’s death is related to the flood last week; it’s too early to tell.

The building that the woman was found in was in one of the hardest hit areas of the city.

Officials say they have to wait for an autopsy to know exactly how she died.

The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy later this week.
