Hurricanes make the most of rare January home date, defeating Warriors 6-2
The Lethbridge Hurricanes don’t play much at home over the next 18 days, and they made the most of it Tuesday night against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Hurricanes got out fast, taking a 2-0 lead after the first period on goals from Tristen Doyle and Vojtech Port, and built it from there to a commanding 6-2 win over the Warriors.
After a relatively quiet first period, both teams combined for five goals in the middle frame.
Moose Jaw pulled to within a goal on a power play goal from Ethan Semeniuk, but Lethbridge matched that on a power play goal of their own from Logan Wormald midway through to make it 3-1 Hurricanes.
Nineteen seconds later, Ethan Hughes scored for Moose Jaw to make it a one-goal game again, but a couple minutes later, Cameron Norrie restored the lead to two goals at 4-2.
Kooper Gizowski of the Hurricanes had a chance to extend the lead to three goals when he was awarded a penalty shot after being hauled down on a breakaway, but Josh Banini stopped it.
However, shortly after that, Logan McCutcheon scored to give Lethbridge a 5-2 lead after two, and then in the third, McCutcheon added one more goal to build the lead to 6-2.
Lethbridge outshot Moose jaw 43-29 on the night.
The victory was the second in a row for the Hurricanes.
Next up for Lethbridge: a Friday night clash with the Swift Current Broncos as the team starts a five-game road trip. Puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. They aren’t back in Lethbridge until Jan.22, when they take on the Regina Pats.
