Options for a brand new, transit-centered development plan around the Anderson LRT Station were released and citizens will get a chance to chime in at an open house next week.
The concept designs are for the area across from Southcentre Mall, on Macleod Trail at 109 Avenue S.E.
The plan is to build a multi-use development that includes a park, public plaza, retail space, office space and residential units.
Four preliminary designs were presented to area residents and a number of concerns were brought forward through that process.
The most common comments were:
- Density should be balanced with a mix of uses to ensure vitality and safety
- Height is preferred in a mid-rise format with the taller buildings close to Macleod Trail
- Plan for all ages including seniors and children
- Connections are important, particularly the connection to the west (Southwood)
- Green spaces should be functional and not wasted
- The area should be pedestrian-friendly
- A mix of uses including office, residential and shops should be incorporated
- Architectural design and quality of materials should be important
- Safety to be considered through design
The city is holding an open house to give people a chance to see a proposed concept drawing for the area on Thursday, May 15, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Southcentre Mall's Centre Court.
