Calgary Canucks trio finding chemistry and piling up the points

Share

Since coming back from injury, Calgary Canucks captain Bowden Singleton has been playing on a line with Jayden Joly and Jack Plandowski and the trio has found the scoring touch.

Just before Christmas, the line combined to produce 18 points against the Grand Prairie Storm in the Canucks 8-2 victory.

Singleton led the way with three goals and four assists and says everything was just going right on that night.

“I think that’s the first game in junior that I’ve had that everything is just going the right way,” said the 20 year old.

“I felt like our line just kept producing and we were unstoppable. Every shift we went out there I think and scored. It was awesome, and playing with guys like Plandowski and Joly is just super easy to produce like that and our chemistry is off the chart.”

The perfect addition

Joly ended up with a goal and four assists in that game and has been the perfect centre for that line.

He came to the Canucks from the Blackfalds Bulldogs on Dec. 11 and has put up three goals and eight assists in just six games.

Joly says he’s familiar with both of his wingers, and he’ll never forget the game against the Storm.

“That was pretty special,” said the 20 year old.

“I think that’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Coming in here I’ve played with Bowden and I’ve played with Jack in the past, so I think our chemistry showed there and hopefully we can keep it up.”

Burning desire

Singleton had to watch his team in last year’s Centennial Cup because of a broken wrist.

He says that wasn’t easy and he’s bound and determined to play in the national championship this year, which the Canucks are hosting.

“I think that’s the fuelling fire,” he said.

“I missed the Centennial Cup (last year) and I felt like I hurt my team not being there to help them.”

“I lead on the ice with my play and just being hurt for that amount of time and then coming back and getting hurt again, it just fuels the fire and I feel like I have that fire back to leave it all out there in my last year of junior because I’m a 20 year old.”

Perfect leader

Head coach Brad Moran says he can’t think of a better player to lead his team.

“You know, having him out of the lineup for a significant amount of time, it puts pressure on our offence for sure, but also our leadership in the room,” said Moran.

“Since he’s been back, I think obviously our offense is rolling a bit better and everything is more in sync.”

The Canucks are in Drumheller on Friday night and then back home against Camrose on Saturday night.
