Members of the Calgary Police Service took to Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C. on Thursday looking for a few good men and women.

The stop at the university's spring criminology career fair was the latest in the force’s search of Western Canada for prospective officers. On Saturday, the CPS recruiters will head to the Justice Institute of British Columbia for the school's law enforcement career fair.

The service has seen a spike in local applications following recent layoffs in the oil and gas sector and the economic downturn, but the force continues to herald the benefits of a career in policing throughout the western provinces

“Really it’s about awareness for folks,” explains CPS Sergeant Kevin Zeh. “We want to make sure folks know the Calgary Police Service is currently hiring and we are constantly looking for good people.”

The Calgary Police Service hopes to fill two recruit classes with 24 future officers in each.
