A Calgary man has come up with an innovative idea to keep your poppy in place on your lapel, but officials with the Royal Canadian Legion are taking issue with it.

Doug Michetti has created the poppy pin, a small black lapel pin that doubles as the middle of your Legion poppy.

The pin sells for between $3 and $5 and it’s so popular that it’s sold out at all of the local Legions.

Mark Barhani, Dominion Treasurer and a member of 264 in Kensington, says they won’t be replenishing their stock and will be discontinuing sales.

“Somebody has gone ahead and manufactured something. They are making dollars on it. From my perspective, they are taking dollars out of, for that matter, Legions over and above that, basically the veterans.”

Michetti defends his pin however, saying that it still supports veterans because it doesn’t come with the poppy itself.
