A teacher at a Calgary Catholic high school charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student will stay in jail for at least two and a half weeks.
She was expected to appear for a bail review, but her defence counsel did not attend the court on Monday, saying a scheduling mixup kept him in Cochrane.
A student aide who appeared on Mason's behalf state that the Crown and defence are in the midst of resolution talks, which could result in the case being resolved before it goes to court.
Jennifer Mason, 30, was charged earlier this year after a member of the public spotted suspicious activity taking place in a vehicle in northwest Calgary.
A subsequent investigation by police found that Mason, who taught at Our Lady of Assumption School, and the student began the relationship when he was just 15 years old.
After being charged, Mason was released on bail on the condition that she would not have any contact with the teen.
Last week, police found that she had made contact with him and was therefore charged with breaching the conditions of her release.
Mason will remain at the Calgary Remand Centre until her next court hearing on June 19.
