It took just 18 seconds into the New Year for Calgary’s first baby to be born.
Lidia and Sergiu Tacu welcomed little Anna at 12:00:18 at the Foothills Medical Centre.
The little girl's due date was January 6, but she just couldn't wait to meet her parents and big brother Marc.
New mom Lidia said she saw the fireworks show over the city just as Anna was born.
"I'm very happy. It was my dream to have a boy and a girl," she said.
They picked the name Anna because of the season when she was born. In Moldova, where Lidia was born, January 7 is Christmas Day.
"Anna is the mother of Maria, who is the mother of Jesus Christ," Lidia said.
Sergiu says he's already called back home to tell his family and Lidia's about the new arrival.
"It's something special, to have a birthday on the same day as the New Year. All our friends will know her birthdate."
He says that Marc has held his little sister already and says he is very excited in his new role.
