Police are looking for a group of people who have been knocking on doors in Tuscany and Valley Ridge collecting donations for the “Children’s Joy Foundation”.
Residents in the two northwest communities reported several incidents where five people came to their doors aggressively soliciting donations for the suspected fraudulent charity.
Police say that in some incidents, an adult man and two adult women were seen with a boy and girl, who were playing a guitar and a violin. All are described as being of Asian descent.
Residents told police the adults became particularly aggressive, and even pointed out change people had in cup holders inside their vehicles.
What to look for from charities that solicit door-to-door:
- Request the organization’s charitable number.
- Request the option of a tax receipt, prior to providing a donation.
- Representatives of the organization should be wearing visible ID.
- Request contact information for the organization including phone number and address.
Police say they are unable to verify the legitimacy of the “Children’s Joy Foundation” and are asking the public for help to locate the individuals believed to be involved.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
