It’s the circle of controversy.
A new piece of art has some people questioning how Calgary is spending its money.
The big blue hoop, called Travelling Light, is part of the new bridge located on 96th Avenue N.E., near Airport Trail,
The price tag: $471, 000.
This falls in line with the city’s public art policy, which dictates that with any municipal capital project over $1 million, one per cent of that budget will go toward public art.
Some are questioning the value for money, and even Mayor Naheed Nenshi says he “hates it”.
The project was two years in the making. A jury of five picked the final submission, including three members of the art and design community, one community representative as well as a City of Calgary representative.
